BIRD COLLECTIVE
Bird Collective is a conservation-focused apparel brand that has been partnering with nonprofits since 2019 to raise awareness and build a community committed to protecting wildlife for future generations. For this project, we designed a collection celebrating the birds and ecosystem of the Great Salt Lake, a critical habitat in the Western Hemisphere for millions of migratory birds. The Great Salt Lake's health is essential to countless bird species that depend on it during migration and breeding, making this collection both a celebration of biodiversity and a call to conservation action.

our approach
We approached this collection with the precision of field researchers and the eye of illustrators. Each bird was carefully studied to ensure authentic representation. The apparel designs feature Wilson's Phalarope, Black-necked Stilt, White-faced Ibis, and Brine shrimp, creating a full-circle ecosystem illustration that shows the interconnected web of life at the Great Salt Lake. The bandana design centers American White Pelicans circling the iconic Spiral Jetty, bordered by their nesting refuge at Gunnison Island, creating visual references to the delicate balance of this critical habitat.
The illustrations layer scientific accuracy with artistic storytelling, combining the unique birds and the diverse ecosystem they depend on. We wanted birders to recognize the authenticity while educating broader audiences to understand why this ecosystem matters. The designs celebrate biodiversity while quietly advocating for the conservation work needed to preserve the Great Salt Lake and the countless species that rely on it.
